This is a vintage 1940s Playbill from the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The Barretts of Wimpole Street, Katharine Cornell and Brian Aherne. The front cover features a prominent "TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:" message, advocating for investment in War Bonds to support the war effort, characteristic of the World War II era. The Playbill is registered in the U.S. Patent Office, as indicated on the cover.

The back cover displays a full-page advertisement for Chesterfield Cigarettes, highlighting "EIGHT GREAT RADIO SHOWS A WEEK" and featuring images of singers Perry Como and Harry Prime, which helps to further date this piece to the mid-1940s. This playbill offers a unique glimpse into wartime American culture, combining entertainment history with a patriotic call to action and period advertising.

This item is from the family estate of Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver. Estes also ran for President and vice President with Stevenson against Nixon/Eisenhower. At one time there was a fire in part of his childhood home. So this item may have some soot staining, discoloration/staining, creasing, has wear around the edges, may have a musty odor from storage with normal estate wear. Please see pictures/scans for more details. We have a large amount of ephemera from the Kefauver estate listed and or will be listing.
