Step back in time with this charming vintage Norcross birthday card, likely from the 1940s or 1950s, featuring the beloved "Floppy" dog character. The front of the card presents a delightful scene of Floppy, wearing spectacles, engrossed in a book titled "CLUES TO A HAPPY BIRTHDAY by A. SLEUTH," with the playful message, "Hope your BIRTHDAY will be a THRILLER." This whimsical illustration captures the nostalgic essence of mid-century greetings and the endearing appeal of the Floppy character, making it a unique piece for collectors of vintage ephemera and dog-themed memorabilia.
Inside, the card continues the adventurous theme with two more illustrations of Floppy, one showing an "exciting" chase and another a "THRILLER" moment. The opposing panel wishes the recipient "a year that's filled with GOOD CHEER," accompanied by an illustration of Floppy holding bones and another attempting to open a barrel of "GOOD CHEER." The card contains a handwritten note and signed by Senator Estes Kefauver "Love and a happy birthday to you, Dad - Estes," adding a personal touch and historical context. The back proudly displays the Norcross New York, U.S.A. copyright and the "Floppy" character name, confirming its authentic mid-century origin.
This item is from the family estate of Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver. Estes also ran for President and vice President with Stevenson against Nixon/Eisenhower. At one time there was a fire in part of his childhood home. So this item may have some soot staining, discoloration/staining, creasing, has wear around the edges, may have a musty odor from storage with normal estate wear. Please see pictures/scans for more details. We have a large amount of ephemera from the Kefauver estate listed and or will be listing.
