Step back in time with this original San Carlo Opera Company program from February 2 and 3, 1940, performed at the historic Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. This rare piece of musical ephemera details the company's 30th annual transcontinental tour, sponsored by The Beethoven Club. The program provides a fascinating glimpse into the classical performing arts scene of the era, featuring full cast lists for three iconic operas: Verdi's "Aida" and "Rigoletto," and Flotow's "Martha," which included a special ballet divertissement.

This vintage program showcases the esteemed company personnel, including conductor Carlo Peroni and stage director Louis Raybout, alongside a roster of sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, tenors, baritones, and bassos. It also highlights the San Carlo Ballet with premiere danseurs Lydia Arlova and Lucien Prideaux. Beyond the cast, the program offers detailed 'Story of the Opera' synopses for each performance, providing rich historical context for opera enthusiasts and collectors of performing arts memorabilia. A unique collectible from a bygone era of grand opera tours.
